Acting as a thermal buffer, the new porch is designed to fit in seamlessly with the existing house. The external finishes are reproduction yellow sandstone and roughcast.
Underfloor heating ensures the space is always warm, and the open-type roof has windows which flood it and the adjacent hall with natural light.
A new rear facing extension allows for open plan living and dining with access to the garden from an open roof space with roof windows and patio doors. The same features and materials have been brought through the house from front to back. The house now works better thermally and the extension benefits from solar gain even though it faces north.
